Meet Amanda

Amanda Treppa is a working mom, business leader, and community advocate who puts people first. Born and raised in Metro Detroit, she faced adversity from a young age as her mother struggled with substance abuse. Amanda's experiences with homelessness and foster care during her early childhood led her to witness the shortcomings of the system firsthand.

When Amanda was eight, she was adopted and given a second chance at stability and security despite the trauma of her early years. Throughout her time in Macomb County public schools, Amanda worked hard in and out of the classroom, a testament to the positive influence of engaged teachers and principals. These educators were lifesavers as they provided her with the support and encouragement she needed and played a crucial role in her success.

In school, Amanda was active in musical theater, and worked at McDonald’s, as a waitress, and a nanny to put herself through Western Michigan University. Amanda then pursued her dream of acting professionally and landed roles on Law & Order, Orange is the New Black, and off-Broadway productions.

Eager to help improve the health and well-being of others and continue to grow in business, Amanda shifted to a career in the corporate fitness industry where she was elevated to leadership roles and honed her problem-solving skills. Although she was passionate about her work, she was subjected to persistent and severe workplace abuse from a supervisor who created a toxic, hostile environment while Amanda recovered from a devastating miscarriage that happened at work.

This experience ignited a fire within Amanda, leading her to become a fierce advocate for workers' rights, champion the Workplace Psychological Safety Act, and pursue her Master of Legal Studies in Employment Law. She has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the issue of workplace psychological safety and has been instrumental in pushing for legislative changes to protect employees from abusive and harmful work environments.

Following the birth of her daughter, Amanda faced the challenges of postpartum depression and turned to alcohol, seeking a temporary escape. A driving accident was a powerful wake-up call and turning point for her. In the harsh light of that reality, she made a resolute decision to change the trajectory of her life. The road to redemption was not easy, but her commitment was unwavering. She embraced sobriety, sought therapy, and began to rebuild her life from the ground up, since finding recovery on the other side.

Today, Amanda is proudly raising her daughter in Royal Oak and serves as the People & Culture Manager at Detroit Action, a local civic engagement organization focused on building stronger, safer communities for all. She is active in our community, serves on the Local Officers Compensation Commission, and is an Emerge America alum.

While Lansing politicians put gamesmanship over the people they are supposed to serve, Amanda is running for State Senate to lead boldly with courage and conviction on behalf of Oakland and Macomb Counties. She will hold corporations accountable, protect our rights, strengthen our schools, and create opportunities so that everyone has the tools they need to get ahead.
